Disability benefits are paid either through Social Security disability (SSD) or through a program called Supplemental Security Income (SSI). SSD pays benefits to those that are unable to work due to a medical condition. SSI makes monthly payments to qualified persons of low income and few resources.
A qualified Arkansas social security disability lawyer can fully inform you as to the requirements of these programs and what benefits you may receive.
For SSI, in order to be eligible you must have a low income and few resources such as cash, bank accounts, stocks and bonds or real estate.
With SSD, eligibility is determined by how many work credits you have earned. In addition, your disability must have lasted for one year or be expected to last that long or to result in death.
How will it be decided if I am disabled?
Social Security will review your application to see that it meets their basic requirements for eligibility. If it does, they will send your application to a state agency that uses various doctors and specialists to make a final determination on your disability.
They will review all of the medical evidence and ask your doctors for complete information on your condition and how it relates to work. You may be asked to have a special examination in order to make a final determination.
You can apply on-line, by telephone or in person at Social Security.
You will need to supply complete information on your medical history, doctors that you have visited and the outcome of those visits, data on treatments and medicines that you have had and other information. As many initial claims are denied, individuals utilize the services of a knowledgeable lawyer to help ensure their claim is filed correctly.
At Angel Disability Law, I know the claim appeals process and can successfully navigate this for you.
